Fret not that NASA’s $278 million “Orbiting Carbon Observatory” failed to reach orbit and dropped into the ocean near Antarctica. The new stimulus bill gives NASA more than $400 million to put towards “enhanced Earth-science and climate research.”

Of course, the next carbon catcher might stand a better chance of reaching orbit if the bill put more of that climate research money towards NASA’s flight R&D (considering it’s NASA, and all). As it stands, the stimulus allocates the relatively smaller sum of $150 million for NASA to put toward aeronautics.
