Noah, the biggest problem with Code Pink’s powwow with Ahmadinejad is that it leaves you speechless when there’s so much to say. But since horrified silence is the order of the day in Iran, it’s probably best we speak up. I particularly liked this bit:
The group proposed letting artists create a “peace park” in Tehran and suggested making grassroots investments in an Iranian business that makes green and sustainable products like bicycles.
Sure. They could erect a green and sustainable gallows (using hemp for the rope, naturally) in the peace park to better facilitate Iran’s public “youth hangings” (a lovely contribution to the lexicon of criminal justice, no?) Or, better yet, being that Code Pink is a women’s organization, the park could feature a green and sustainable stoning area, to accommodate the public stonings that kill female sinners every year.
Whatever Code Pink does to get out Tehran’s message of peace and justice, let’s hope they don’t let it distract them from their efforts to remind the world what monsters the U.S. Marines are.
