Apropos of the article “West Bronx: Food, Shelter, Clothing,” published in the June COMMENTARY: The average housewife doesn’t indulge in splurges when she has a few friends in for the evening. She couldn’t afford to except on very special occasions. The average man doesn’t wear silky gabardines, scratchy plaid shirts, and brilliant, broadly knotted ties. Neither do the girls wear the types of clothes Mrs. Glazer enumerates.
The whole story is a caricature of Jewish life in general à Sam Levenson; perhaps the wealthy Jews live in such a fashion, but not the great majority.
