To the Editor:
Many thanks for Terry Teachout’s lovely rendering of Louis Armstrong’s warm feelings for his Jewish friends and his notion of the Jewish spirit [“Satchmo & the Jews,” November 2009]. Mr. Teachout’s article is yet another reminder of what a great-souled and great-hearted American original Satchmo was.

To the Editor:
Terry Teachout is right on in his portrait of Louis Armstrong. Not only was Pops a great artist, he was a great man. I had the opportunity to take a bus ride with Pops and his great band of 1960, and my photograph of him with his shirt open, the Star of David necklace given to him by the Karnofskys resting on his chest, is still one of my favorite images.
