To the Editor:
TERRY TEACHOUT writes about our larger culture when he writes about the movies, much the way Samuel Lipman wrote about our larger culture when he wrote about music (“Remember These Forgotten Men,” January). In saying this, I am not making any kind of equation between the two, intellectual analysis being harder to weigh than anything, really. Mr. Teachout identifies our putting off of maturity and our slavish adoration of youth. We would always choose these conditions if we could and, in a movie theater, we can. Most pleasurably, Mr. Teachout invites us to watch or re-watch the movies he writes about. What a good feeling it is to catch up with the past. So, thank you, Mr. Teachout.
