Special plaudits to Daniel J. Silver for his excellent discussion of the movie Contact [“God and Carl Sagan in Hollywood,” September 1997]. I had become so numbed from hearing people praise the movie and say it treated religion fairly that I was pleased to find my own critical view vindicated by Mr. Silver. My compliments—well done!
