Bill Kristol shrewdly suggests that the McCain campaign flesh out a specific policy proposal on helping families with special needs children to build on those magnificent, evocative lines in Palin’s speech. This point could be applied more broadly. McCain needs to out flank Obama with position papers and new policy ideas. Yes, the Democratic research team will spend hours punching holes in these ideas, but at this point, they don’t have any real ammunition of their own. The more McCain-Palin can show that its campaign is about genuine policy proposals, the more it will reinforce the idea — crystalized by Palin last night — that Obama is more about image than action.
