Last month, I wrote a short piece compiling the instances of Barack Obama surrogates who had “unsubtly alleg[ed] that McCain is an unhinged, mentally unstable warmonger who would deploy soldiers capriciously because he hasn’t truly experienced the horrors of ground battle.” The tally at that point included Wes Clark, Tom Harkin, Jay Rockefeller, and Rand Beers. Today, we can add Frank Rich to the list. Writing in his latest Sunday Times column, he observes:

As Gen. David Petraeus returns home, McCain increasingly resembles those mad Japanese soldiers who remained at war on remote Pacific islands years after Hiroshima.

The pretense of so many on the Left–that even though they disagree with John McCain, they still respect his wartime service–has always been a lie. With each passing smear it just becomes more clear.
