Robert Reich, the former secretary of labor and advocate of government industrial policy (that worked out wonderfully) whose Twitter feed is one of the more revealing left-liberal streams of consciousness I’ve seen, offers the following: “I recall White House the morning after ’94 election. All were in shock, like a morgue after a terrible accident. Won’t be as bad tomorrow.” Given that everyone now believes the results tonight will be far worse than the ’94 turnover for Democrats, this is an interesting perspective, to put it mildly. Meanwhile, Reich is saying that Obama must move Left — “Repeat: Obama’s next step isn’t to “move to the center.” It’s to have greater courage of conviction” — while Clinton saved himself from doom in 1996 by moving decisively to the Right.
