As someone who was distinctly unimpressed by Mitt Romney during the primaries, I have to admit he’s done a terrific job as a McCain surrogate the last two days. He just did it again on FNC. Romney’s biggest problem during the primaries was that he pretended to be something he is not—a movement conservative. The guy was a pretty decent governor, a successful businessman, and a political moderate. If McCain ends up picking him as VP, Romney should revert to his record and forget trying to play to the right. Obama will have a difficult job trying to use those Romney lines about McCain being too liberal or too much of a maverick, unlike McCain’s success at using Biden’s jabs at Obama against him.
