This is the last chance for McCain to give undecided voters a coherent rationale for preferring him to Barack Obama. At the end of the evening, these voters must know that Obama’s massive spending will lead to tax increases for everyone, including the middle class, higher prices, inflation, and a loss of jobs. He’s got to convince them that there is no such thing as redistributing wealth–that punishing the wealthy simply discourages work and investment. And he’s got to more than rant about Wall Street greed. He has to explain the Fannie/Freddie disaster and the Democrats’ role in it, and he has to explain that Obama wouldn’t support reform legislation when McCain offered it. He should also remind voters that Obama received more money in political contributions from Fannie Mae executives than anyone but the Democratic chairman of the Senate banking committee . And he has to do it all without looking irritated and short-tempered. He must speak in full sentences that make sense and treat Obama respectfully but hit him hard on policy. He should know what point he want to make before he opens his mouth and keep it simple and direct. If he does this, he will win.
